Poem #263 Peripherals

We have learned to keep our heads down

To pay attention to what is right in front of us.

The peripherals don't matter.

A valuable lesson that has saved the lives of many,

and is the key to success for all.

But in our necessity required focus

we lose ourselves to single-mindedness.

Forgetting that there is much beauty

hidden in the corners of our eyes.

Colours, shapes, and creatures we were once

familiar with as a child

hovering just out of view,

waiting for us to look up

and see the world for the beauty that it is.
