Poem #314 Gone Past

Yesterday's gone.

Only its memory remains,

and though the scars might still hurt

with time, the pain will fade.

with even more time

both the memory and the scars

might disappear as well.

But what the mind forgets,

the body remembers;

what the body forgets

the soul remembers;

what the soul forgets, the spirit remembers,

and what the child forgets, the parent remembers,

forever vigilant.

For past mistakes, though gone,

often lurk in the future,

waiting for the day, we forget their existence,

but our Father stands guard, protecting us.
